East Ayrshire Council has resolved to take action to secure modified restoration of an abandoned opencast coal site in south-west Scotland. The site covered four phases of working over 510 hectares of land and contained numerous water filled voids, disturbed land, peat traps and unprotected high walls and overburden mounds.The majority of the land within the site comprised exposed overburden with no top soil or vegetation.
