California Gov. Gavin Newsom issued an executive order in September requiring sales of all new passenger vehicles to be zero emissions by 2035 and mandating medium- and heavy-duty vehicles be zero emissions by 2045 where feasible. Joy Alafia, president and CEO of the Western Propane Gas Association, wasn't surprised by the order, saying California has been on a path for at least two years of looking at the internal combustion engine in an effort to transition to zero-emission engines where possible. She also doesn't see the executive order directly at odds with the role propane can play in the medium-and heavy-duty space.
