Sixteen crossbred heifers (5-8 months; 45-76 kg) randomly divided into 4 groups were allotted to 4 dietary treatments (T_1 : urea treated rice straw and concentrate mixture supplemented with sulphur through sodium sulphate to provide dietary N : S ratio 10 : 1; T_2 same as T_1 but sulphur was supplemented through ammonium sulphate; T_3 : untreated rice straw and urea supplementation along with sodium sulphate to provide N : S ratio 10 : 1 and T_4 same as T_3, but sulphur was supplemented through ammonium sulphate). Digestibility coefficients of DM, OM, CP, gross energy, ADF, NDF, cellulose and hemicellulose did not differ significantly among the four treatments. The intake of DM, OM, CP and gross energy was significantly higher (P<0.05) in T_2 thanin T_3 and T_4. The intake of DDM, DOM, DCP and DE did not differ significantly among the four treatments. Average daily weight gain also did not differ significantly among the treatments.
