The EU Commission has identifled commodity market and their elated derivative markets as an area of concern, lacking measures to ensure integrity and transparency and , therefore, open to abusive behaviour. Regulators globally have also bee seeking to reduce systemic risk to the entire financial system, according to Brian McDonnell, Partner, Financial Services Regulationm, Addleshaw Goddar. As aresult, financial instruments with commodities trading are to be brought more fully into the scope of the European regulatory regime under MiFID 2 (Markets in inancial instruments Directive) in January 2017 .
