Callus cultures were initiated from seeds of three genotypes of pearl millet namely X 7, CoHCu 8 and UCC 23 on Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium supplemented with 2,4-D and kinetin. Early callusing was observed on MS medium supplemented with 2,4-D (2.0mg/L) + Kinetin (0.5 mg/L) in UCC 23. Among the different hormonal combinations, 2, 4-D (2.0 mg/L) + Kinetin (0.5 mg/L) shows good response in callus induction compare to other concentration and combinations. MS medium supplemented with 2.0 mg L~(-1)BAP+ 0.5 mg L~(-1) IAA tor shoot formation and 1.0 mg L ' IBA + 1.5 mg L~(-1) IAA for root formation were superior to other hormonal combinations in terms of regeneration of the calli derived from the seeds of UCC 23.
