Follitropin delta, a human recombinant follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), is authorised in the European Union for ovarian stimulation in women resorting to assisted reproductive technologies (1). It became available in France in April 2019. Two recombinant FSH products, with similar efficacy and adverse effect profile, were already available for use in this situation: follitropin alia (Gonal-F° and other brands), and follitropin beta (Pure-gon°)(2,3). Follitropin delta is produced using genetically modified human cells, whereas the other two recombinant FSH products are produced in genetically engineered Chinese hamster cells. Nevertheless, they have the same amino acid sequence, identical to that of natural human FSH. The only difference lies in their glycosylation (the addition of sugar chains to the sequence of amino acids) which has pharmacokinetic consequences, in particular with respect to elimination (1,4).
