摘要

Cytokine release syndrome is a potentially fatal, intense systemic inflammatory reaction that can be caused by certain drugs, usually with administration of the first dose. The symptoms are nonspecific: fever, chills, hot flushes, alterations in heart rate and blood pressure, dyspnoea or chest tightness, abdominal or low back pain, nausea, vomiting or diarrhoea, rash, pruritus, etc. Patients sometimes develop life-threatening single or multiple organ failure. The syndrome diminishes in intensity with repeated administration of the drug responsible. This syndrome occurs when an unusually high number of immune cells become activated and release cytokines, which are inflammatory mediators. The symptoms are similar to those of an immune-mediated hypersensitivity reaction, but their mechanisms, consequences and outcomes differ.
