The US California EPA's Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) approved 29 pesticide products containing 17 "new" active ingredients in 2012. Among the ten conventional agrochemical ais were five of the eight conventional new ais approved by the federal EPA last year (Agrow No 654, p 10). Only two included approvals for end-use products, the other three being for manufacturing use only. The ais with end-use products approved concurrently by the California and federal EPAs were Bayer CropScience's fungicide, fluopyram, and Nippon Soda's fungicide, cyflufenamid. The ais with manufacturing use approvals only in California were BASF's fungicides, ametoctradin (trade-marked as Initium) and fluxapyroxad (trade-marked as Xemium), and DuPont/Mitsui Chemicals' fungicide, penthiopyrad.
