Though lot of literature is available on reliability, they are on modeling product lifetimes and degradation. Not many studies are available on comparison of product reliabilities across different populations. Whether populations with similar characteristics can be combined is of practical importance. Equivalence testing and hypothesis testing based approaches are available for comparison of static populations. Hypothesis testing starts with the assumption that the populations are equivalent unless it is found otherwise. Equivalence testing is based on the assumption that the populations are different unless it is proved contrary. Comparison of drugs in pharmaceutical treatments and comparison of measurement systems are practical situations where comparison of populations are needed. For comparing population reliabilities, Stevens and Anderson-Cook (Ref. 1) adapt the probability of agreement (PA) used for assessing reliability. This is proposed as an alternative to hypothesis testing. In order to compare reliability depending on age and usage in two populations it is necessary to quantify the similarity. An advantage of PA compared to hypothesis testing is that the former depends on user-specified acceptable tolerances. This study extends the PA approach and proposes new graphical summaries for the purpose of comparison.
