Monsanto snubs Argentina over GM soybeans

Monsanto is to deny Argentine farmers the use of its latest generation of genetically modified soybeans over concerns about intellectual property rights. The company developed its insect-resistant and glyphosate-tolerant Bt/Roundup Ready 2 Yield soybeans especially for South American markets. But it is implementing a strict product launch policy in the region. Monsanto's focus for Bt/Roundup Ready 2 Yield is on Brazil, the company told Agrow. "We remain committed to our policy to only introduce new technologies in countries that can assure IP protection and a compensation system to collect for the use of our technology," a company spokesperson explained.
