Cost-effective and small enough to reach places that helicopters cannot, UAVs are increasingly being used in counter-terror operations. However, while the technology is evolving apace, legislators are still playing catch-up. Police forces looking for new tools in the fight against terror attacks are finding increasing capabilities with low logistical requirements in UAVs. These can be deployed by police or firearms units within minutes to get better visuals on suspects and unfolding crime scenes, without the need to wait for crew to board and pilot a helicopter.
