摘要

In working with veterinarians over the years, I have learned that many are interested in state politics when it directly impacts them but, otherwise, often keep their heads down and just work hard. There exists a lot of distaste and mistrust for Political Action Committees (PACs), which makes it hard to convince veterinarians that it is extremely important to give to their own, nonpartisan Veterinary Political Action Committee (VPAC). I consistently tell members of the profession that everyone else has a special interest group, but, unlike the others, we are the group that is actually working for their interests because VPAC is run by veterinarians. However, I also have learned never to underestimate the most low-key of DVMs and their ability to utilize their own personal connections when presented with an important reason to do so. When provided with a good argument, I have been amazed at the profession's ability to move mountains simply by reaching out and making a request.
