The UN Environment Programme(UNEP)has launched an international partnership of farmers,food retailers and other organisations aimed at accelerating the global phase-out of the ozone-depleting fumigant,methyl bromide.The International Partnership for Phasing Out Methyl Bromide comprises farms and companies that have stopped using methyl bromide or have pledged to halt its use by September 2007.This will mark the 20th anniversary of the Montreal Protocol,which established a 2005 phase-out for most uses of methyl bromide in developed countries and a 2015 phase-out for developing nations(Agrow No 289,p 16).
