The UK Pesticides Safety Directorate(PSD)has recommended that the European Commission exempt sulfur from the EU maximum residue limit(MRL)rules"as soon as possible".The PSD says that it,along with the regulatory authorities in some other EU member states,has always maintained that sulfur should be exempt from MRLs by means of Annex IV of the EU pesticide MRL Regulation(396/2005).It stresses that sulfur occurs naturally in crops and is,in any case,of relatively low toxicity.
