Facing industry woes such as excess steelmaking capacity of 900mt/y and thin profits, China's steel sector is slowing down its pace of investments in fixed assets. In the second half of last year, construction started on 197 new projects with a combined budget of Yuan 59.2bn (9.4bn dollars).
