More people than ever have witnessed a total solar eclipse, and The All-American Transcontinental Total Solar Eclipse of 21 August 2017 helped boost the audience. Anyone who sees a total solar eclipse, no matter how well or poorly the details of those moments in the moon's shadow are recalled, will likely confirm what was experienced was more delicate, more complex, and more grand than what was recorded in photographs of the same event. Most people also have more confidence in their own eyes than in the camera. The sun's corona, or outer atmosphere, is revealed during totality, when the rest of the sun's light is blocked, and those who see the corona in open air assume, usually unconsciously, the corona observed by the eye is the real corona.
