During requirement-based performance verification tests of the elements of a system, it is difficult for the Test & Evaluation (T&E) community to objectively support Model-Based Systems Engineering's (MBSE's) identification and assessment of integrated system-level capability. It is a challenge for T&E to deliver the desired system mission-representative element performance data, that are with respect to the entire system's intended operational environment, because element functions are traditionally verified only under their allocated requirements' specified measurement conditions. The proposed mission-oriented Design-of-Experiment (DoE) test approach remedies this difficulty through the employment of DoE and Response Surface Methodology (RSM) analytical techniques. This test approach characterizes all the element performances as respective regression-model predicted variables that are directly influenced by changing conditions throughout the system operational environment; thus, it delivers what are now normalized and system mission-relevant element performance and verification data to support MBSE. Once these element performance regression models are utilized by MBSE as their respective low-level model inputs, the integrated system capability can be objectively identified and assessed via their aggregate and coherent simulation.
