摘要

The purpose of this study is to improve the cutting performance of the scalpel by imitating the micro-structures of miscanthus leaves. Four different types of micro-serrated edges were designed, and these micro-serrations were then successfully processed on the edges of the scalpels by laser induced plasma micromachining (LIPMM). Subsequently, cutting tests were carried out to explore the effect of micro-serrations on the cutting performance. Compared to the unprocessed commercial scalpel, the micro-serrated scalpels could significantly reduce the cutting force and actual cutting depth. The type of blended serration without spacing scalpel had the best performance during cutting soft tissue due to the induced serration effect, which was also verified by the cutting process images and finite element simulation.
