摘要

A new species of Schoenoplectus, S. multisetus Hayasaka & C. Sato, is described from Honshu and Kyushu, Japan. The occurrence in Japan of the new species described in this paper has been reported by Tsutsui (1983a, 1983b, 1984, 1985, 2001) provisionally as Scirpus sp. or Schoenoplectus sp., but it has remained undescribed so far. We examined the undescribed species in the course of the senior author's taxonomic and cytological work on Schoenoplectus sect. Actaeogeton (Rchb.) J. Raynal of Kyushu (Satoet al. 2004), as well as of the junior author's monographic work on the genus (Hayasaka 2002).
