Scorzonera rebunensis Tatew. & Kitam. (Asteraceae) is endemic to Re bun Island, Hokkaido, Japan. This species shows a rather symmetric and monomodal karyotype formulated as 2n =14 二10m + 2scm + 2W Sect. Scorzonera of this genus comprises five species: S. rebunensis, S. hum His L., S. radiata Fisch. ex Ledeb., S. coriacea A. Duran & Aksoy and S. ahmetduranii S. Makbul& Coskuncelebi. As Scorzonera humilis, S. radiata and S. ahmetduranii are known to be diploid (2n = 14)， all examined species belonging to sect. Scorzonera are diploid with a common basic chromosome number of x = 7.
