The results of an analysis of the trophic substances (carbohydrates and nitrogenous compounds) in 15 species (including Astragalus incertus, Trifolium ambiguum and Deschampsia cespitosa) from Aragats Mountain (3200 m altitude), Armenia are presented. An increased level of integration of the root and leaf metabolism with decreasing distance between these organs was found which increased the synthesis of carbohydrates and nitrogenous compounds. This improved the stability of the alpine plants under extreme conditions.
