摘要

Loperamide is an opoid receptor agonist, which binds to opoid receptors in the gut wall reducing peristalsis (anti-motility drug). Loperamide is indicated for the symptomatic relief of acute diarrhoea. It is generally very safe. Extremely rare allergic reactions including anaphylaxis and anaphylactic shock have been reported. To our knowledge there is only one reported case in the literature of anaphylactic shock, which was a 10-year-old boy, who had an allergic reaction 5 min after taking oral loperamide for acute gastroenteritis (I). The condition of the patient improved within 2-3 h of paren-teral administration of antihistamines and corticosteroids. We report a case of 34-year-old man who died after anaphylactic shock following ingestion of Imodium tablets.
