The article reviews the resent determination of themagnetic structures of an (Fe/Gd)15 multilayer by the authorsusing resonant magnetic scattering of circular polarized x-rays atsynchrotron sources. The specular reflections reveal that the 5.4-nm-thick Gd layers magnetize highly nonuniformly along the out-of-plane direction in both magnitude and azimuthal angle in thealigned and twisted states of the sample. The decay of the qx-scanmagnetic diffuse scattering evidences much smoother magneticinterfaces than the charge interfaces. The qz- dependent differencediffuse peaks suggest the presence of rough magnetic interfaceswithin the Gd layers.
