摘要

Cardiorespiratory fitness level is a strong predictor of morbidity and mortality (1). To provide reference values for cardiorespiratory fitness for different age, sex, and ethnic groups is most relevant from both a research and public health point of view. The reference values provided will enable researchers, physicians, and exercise practitioners to better interpret the outcome of a physical fitness assessment. Reference values are also useful for targeting people at a higher risk of chronic diseases, to track future population assessments, and to evaluate the impact of intervention programs. In this context, Wang et al. (2) have reported the reference values for cardiorespiratory fitness in a well-characterized sample of US adults aged 20-49 years. We have done so for Spanish and European adolescent populations (3, 4).
