In April, hundreds of angry Bangladeshis protesting the Anglo-American invasion of Iraq marched in downtown Chittagong, a major port city in this densely populated country of 133.3 million, past the entrance to the Independent University of Bangladesh (IUB). Inside, I sat with Syeda Nahida Akhter, director of the American Corner, discussing the role that her institution was playing in providing resources to an information-starved country. The American Corner, established in January, is a satellite office of the Information Resource Center (IRC) of the U.S. Embassy's Public Affairs Section in the capital, Dhaka.
