Florida Power & Light announced Monday the officialretirement of the 1,300-MW coal-fired St. Johns River Power Park.FPL, along with project partner JEA, have owned the two-boilerfacility located in Jacksonville on an 20%-80% share basis. FPL’s 20%share translated into 254 net MW.FPL said the 30-year-old coal-fired facility “was no longereconomical.” It called the plant “one of the highest-cost generatingfacilities to operate and maintain for both FPL’s and JEA’s systems.”
