The central government of China has carried out supportive policies to finance the mineral exploration in those mines that are running out of extractable reserves. The central government and the local governments will respectively subsidize 2 billion yuan to those mines for mineral exploration before 2010. The National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Land and Resources jointly held an evaluation meeting in early November to review the applications of 95 prospecting projects and 22 mineral resources prediction projects. The first batch 21 gold prospecting projects, 8 gold resources prediction projects, 2 copper prospecting projects and 1 copper resources prediction project gained the approval of the authorities.
