摘要

The Indian Ocean disaster in December 2004 was met with a rapid and effective response by Australian surgeons to deliver humanitarian aid over the period between December 2004 and March 2005. Many lessons have been learnt from combined military and civilian deployment and RACS has responded by providing an infrastructure for fellows and trainees with the support required in future deployments. RACS is working closely with national, state and territory agencies in particular the Australian Health Disaster Management Policy Committee planning and preparing for future disaster whether they be overseas or within Australia and assisting in the provision of educational programmes in the Western Pacific rim.
