The prevailing wage contract threshold will increase to $16,263 on July 1, 2019. Municipal government contracts valued at $16,263 or more must comply with prevailing wage requirements under the New Jersey Prevailing Wage Act (New Jersey Statutes Annotated, 34:11-56.25 et seq.). The New Jersey Prevailing Wage Act establishes a prevailing wage level for workers engaged in public works. The Act requires the payment of minimum rates to laborers, craftsmen and apprentices employed on public works projects, with the prevailing wage rates determined by the Commissioner of Labor and Workforce Development. Prevailing wage rates are based on collective bargaining agreements established for a particular craft or trade in the locality in which the public work is performed. Rates vary by county and type of work performed. A list of prevailing wage determinations is available on the Division of Wage and Hour Compliance Internet website.
