The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) is pushing back against a White House initiated legislative proposal that the union sees as eliminating the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) as an independent federal agency and politicizing the civil service. The proposal, detailed in a May 16 letter to Mike Pence, as President of the Senate, would merge the functions and responsibilities of OPM within the General Services Administration (GSA), for the primary purpose of authorizing the transfer of the vast majority of the current functions and resources of the OPM to the GSA, including Human Resources Solutions, Information Technology, Retirement, Health, and Insurance Services.
