Seaweed as a healthy snack or salad garnish has been around for a while, but what if seaweed could be used to protect juvenile oysters from the effects of ocean acidification? Researchers in the north west of the US are looking into just that.The Pacific waters off Oregon's picturesque coast are filled with oysters, like most of the Northwestern shores. However, the continuing ocean acidification has spurned researchers to look at the use of various seaweed species as a way to limit the damaging effects of acidification on water quality and shellfish health.
