The last time I saw Arthur Clarke was at a meeting in Telluride, Colorado, in 2003. He was unable to travel from his home in Sri Lanka, so he appeared at Telluride as a glorious three-dimensional holographic image in real time. While his hologram was talking to the audience in the hall in Telluride, the members of the audience took turns appearing as a holographic image in his room in Sri Lanka. He could only see us one at a time, but everyone in our hall could see him simultaneously. Although he spoke to us with the usual fraction-of-a-second delay of satellite communication, he was in great form and talked enthusiastically about the past and the future.
