In July-August, Russian mills managed to keep HDG steel prices from falling amid low competition with imports. As demand started weakening in September, producers had to reduce prices to maintain decent capacity utilization. Still, they could manage with just 1-2% cuts as imports were uncompetitive and key consumers had been purchasing less than usual in the previous months. In Q3, the average price for 0.45-1.39 mm Z100 HDG coils rose by RUB 500/t q-o-q to RUB 50,500-51,000/t (CPT Moscow, without VAT). Meanwhile, the average weighted cost of HDG coils production dropped by RUB 1,000 to RUB 35,500 (delivered to Moscow), while the margin increased by 12% q-o-q to RUB 15,000-15,500/t.
