摘要

The idea of this study has its origins in the perception received in the past decades of a progressively deteriorated public image and prestige of mining. Notwithstanding the fact that mining and metallurgie activities have a core role in modern societies' economic and industrial development as main suppliers of raw materials to half of the industries, it seems clear that a majority of the civil society is not aware of the importance and scope of this contribution. Deformed messages are issued and no adequate answer is given. This paper aims to give them an objective and trustworthy response. Inhabitants of a two centuries mining-tradition area have been interviewed to know what has been done well or wrong by mining - on its image and social and economic influence- to a population directly affected -. Personal interviews have been done to a number of qualified local people, and a broader survey to a representative sample of the collective living in that coalfield.
