GENETIC TESTING CAN lead to knowledge about an individual's genetic information that is integral to his/her diagnosis and care. However, this information has also been misused, harming individuals, families, and communities through discrimination. The Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act (GINA) of 2008, signed into law on May 21 of that year, prohibits discrimination based on genetic information in employment and insurance.
