Europe has been making efforts to import less palm-oil-based biodiesel from Indonesia, while Indonesia has been facing higher costs for the petroleum diesel it imports. Elevance Renewable Sciences and Wilmar International own a biorefinery where they have been producing "green diesel." The country has plans in place to raise the cap on biodiesel blending from the current 20 to 30 in 2020, but the 100 biodiesel being made by the partners could accelerate domestic palm oil consumption while reducing the country's fuel import bill even more sharply. The government hopes that fuel imports can be replaced by domestic production within three years.
