According to Reuters data, record volumes of both Azeri and North Sea Forties crude have been shipped to Asia in Jan., as OPEC cut volumes and other producers moved to make up the deficit. As of Jan. 11, the data indicated that more than 11MM bbl of North Sea Forties was either en route to Asia or had already offloaded that month, up from a record of 10MM bbl in Dec. 2015. A record volume of Azeri crude—also 11MM bbl—was also en route for Jan. delivery. "Asia need the oil, Europe has it. The OPEC cut has raised prices, and that makes it profitable to send European oil to Asia," said one trader.
