摘要

Following the addition of fourteen sites to the provisional list for World Heritage Site status by China, including some of the key remaining intertidal mudflats for shorebirds along the flyway, the East Asian-Australasian Flyway Partnership (EAAFP) confirms that one of the most important stopover sites for migratory waterbirds along the flyway will now be protected. The Nanpu coastal wetland in Bohai Bay China - a site Beijing-based birders know well - will become a part of a Provincial Nature Reserve. The Paulson Institute and World Wide Fund for Nature will support the planning and application of the proposed nature reserve. Each year, up to 350,000 waterbirds stage there, including Red Knot, Curlew Sandpiper, Black- tailed Godwit, and Spotted Greenshank. More good news from the EAAFP concerns the designation of a part of a Gulf of Mottama, a critical wintering site for Spoon- billed Sandpipers, as Myanmar s fourth Ramsar site. Congratulations to the Biodiversity and Nature Conservation Association (BANCA - Birdlife Myanmar) and the Spoon- billed Sandpiper Task force for their tireless efforts.
