The US Senate has approved legislation that allows the transportation secretary to ban domestic airlines from participating in the EU emissions trading scheme (ETS). The bill passed by unanimous consent after midnight on 22 September as the Senate aimed to wrap up legislative business in order for members to return to their respective states for the fall election campaign.
