摘要

As the development in the Hunter Region expands, particularly in coastal areas, sites underlain by weak soils are increasingly being investigated for commercial, industrial and residential developments. Such sites may include very soft to firm clays, organic soils, loose silty sands, deep fill or a combination of the above. The topics covered in this paper include investigation techniques, potential geotechnical problems, ground improvement options, long term creep settlements and liquefaction. Case studies of weak soil sites in the Hunter Region are used to illustrate some of the issues and the engineering solutions used to address the geotechnical challenges posed by such sites.
