Controversial Indonesian laws requiring foreigners to sell down their stakes in resource projects to domestic interests have impacted both BHP Billiton and Rio Tinto BHP Billiton has agreed to sell its 80 per cent stake in PT Arutmin Indonesia (Arutmin), which operates the Senakin and Satui steaming coal mines, for US 148m dollars. The ground breaking deal, believed to be the first of its kind in Indonesia, will see BHP Billiton retain marketing rights to 75 percent of the mines' coal.
