A concept for thermal waste treatment is presented using the example of the Borsigstrasse refuse incineration plant in Hamburg (MVB). Particular emphasis is placed on the mechanical treatment of refuse incineration slag. Centrepiece of the plant is an impact crusher made by Hazemag. Current results make clear that the processing-plant fully meets the operational requirements. The recycling options for the slag demonstrate that the thermal treatment of residual slag is ecologically and economically feasible under consideration of current regulations.
