Maria has been the Publicist for the Hobart Group's Wild flower Spectacular for several shows. She is a published author and editor of APST's Hobart newsletter who loves the Tasmanian bush and regularly joins the Hobart Group's extended walks. She lives in a bush land hilltop retreat near Margate in southern Tasmania. Since 1973, 17 flower shows have been held in Hobart, presented by Society for Growing Australian Plants (later to become Australian Plants Society Tasmania) volunteers. Mainly due to the energy and enthusiasm of Bruce Champion, who co-ordinated eight shows and has been on the committee of all except three, these celebrations of our native plants have become major events. From small beginnings the shows burgeoned into three-day extravaganzas held biennially in Hobart's City Hall and drawing thousands of local, interstate and overseas visitors. The 2010 show with the theme The Joy of Native Plants' was Bruce's swansong.
