THEY'D BETTER BE right about this crossover stuff. Every carmaker selling anything in America is pouring crossover SUVs into dealerships like batter, hoping sales will be like hot cakes. (Can minivans really be that repugnant?) The most recent of what soon will be more than 50 crossovers available to buyers on our shores is the Acadia, GMC's first stab at the segment. It is pretty much the same as its Lambda-platform siblings, the Saturn Outlook and the Buick Enclave, though the Enclave has a suspension tuned more for luxury, as well as a slightly plusher interior. And while the Enclave may be the softest of these three GM crossovers, GMC is quick to point out that the Acadia offers more refined ride and handling than the Mazda CX-9 or the Acura MDX, both of which it considers prime competition. It might be closest to the Ford Edge in a lot of ways, except that the Acadia and its GM siblings all offer three rows of seats to the Edge's two.
