We would like to congratulate A. J. de Voogt and R. R. A. van Doom (3) for their excellent and interesting article on aviation accidents associated with aerobatic maneuvers in U.S. aviation. The authors showed most of these accidents as being fatal and involving highly trained pilots. Additionally, they point out relevant limitations of present aircraft accident analysis.Nevertheless, we would like to comment on some general points to underline the importance of both statistical (retrospective) aviation accident analysis from databases and the use of sufficient denominator data for data interpretation.
