摘要

Cryopreservation is a process which involves the cooling of a cell and storage at a temperature, where all metabolic processes are arrested. The concentration and type of cryoprotectants in a semen diluent affect the freezability and post-thaw survivability of spermatozoa (El-Harairy et al., 2011). The most frequently used penetrating cryoprotectant has been reported as glycerol. The cryoprotection efficiency of glycerol is due to its ability to buffer salt at a low temperature, bind with metallic ions, dehydrate the cell and reduce the ice expansion during water solidification (Gao et al., 1995). The information on the effect of different concentrations of glycerol on cryopreservation of buck semen is limited (Kulaksiz et al., 2013). Therefore, the present study was designed to evaluate the effects of glycerol at different concentrations and ethylene glycol on post-thaw recovery of buck spermatozoa after cryopreservation.
