Sheep plays a pivotal role in providing livelihood to the rural mass especially to the socio-economically weaker sections of the society. Vembur sheep is one among the hairy medium-sized sheep breeds distributed in Thoothukudi and Virudhunagar districts of Tamil Nadu and is being maintained by most of the farmers in the traditional way. Perusal of literature revealed that the data with respect to productive traits are scanty. Without adequate information, no meaningful breeding plans can be formulated for the Vembur breed. Hence, a study was carried out to record the productive performance of Vembur sheep in its home tract.
