Mapping the frizzle gene in chicken using microsatellite markers.

A resource population comprising of 5 heterozygous frizzle sires, 5 normal feathered White Leghorn dams and 35 frizzle and 35 normally feathered F1 progenies was used to ascertain the mapping of frizzle genes on E22 linkage group, instead of chromosome 2 in conventional genetic chicken map. Three microsatellite markers i.e., ROS 54, MCW 188 and ROS 109 from E22 linkage group were used to genotype the resource population. The two-point linkage analysis revealed significant linkage between frizzle locus and ROS-54 (LOD=3.16). Frizzle gene also showed some weak linkage (LOD score 2.56) with MCW-188. ROS-109 did not show any linkage either with frizzle locus or other two markers from same E22 linkage group. The results revealed a strong indication of mapping the frizzle gene on E22 linkage group in view of its significant linkage with ROS 54, a marker from E22 linkage group.
