This version of the M3 is a devastatingly quick point-to-point car. If such a thing can exist, the E36 generation was arguably the black sheep of the BMW M3 family line. Stepping into the sizeable shoes of the previous E30 version, a car that had become a legend in its own lifetime, it was never going to have an easy life. But from the off, the E36 M3 met with reactions that varied from polite praise to outright disdain. You'd be entirely justified to wonder why. Even in standard fettle, the E36 boasted nearly a 50bhp advantage over even the hottest E30, the exceptionally special Sport Evolution. What's more, the E36 offered more space, more refinement, a better specification and - a first for the M3 - right-hand drive.
