Effect of Dose and Time of Flufenacet Application on Weeds and Yield of Rice

A field experiment was conducted during rainy (kharif) seasons of 2001 and 2002 to find out the optimum dose and time of fiufenacet application in transplanted rice. Competition between Echinochloa crus-galli, Echinochloa colona and rice was acute. Weed-crop competition, on an average, lowered the grain yield by 62%. Flufenacet at 100 and 120 g/ha applied 7 or 10 days after transplanting gave excellent control (81-96%) of dominant weed species (E. crus-galli, E. colona and Leptochloa chinensis) and recorded significant reduction in weed biomass compared to its application at 80 g/ha. These treatments gave grain yields similar to that of butachlor at 1000 g/ha but were significantly superior to anilofos at 400 g/ha.
